Leslie writes, "I've
been checking out your website for several months now.
Patti Starr recommended it to us after I wrote to her
about a couple of photos we've taken with unusual things
that showed up in them. Here is the story:
A few years go, we started having some strange things
going on in our home-finding objects out of place, and
so forth. Then my kids started noticing things flying
across the room apparently on their own, or items
falling from a table or some flat surface for no reason.
They told me about it, and shortly afterward I happened
to be in the room with one of them in time to see it for
myself-a videotape sailed across the room when no one
was there to throw it except my daughter, but it wasn't
flying AWAY from her.
Anyway, at some point after that I was walking through
the den when I happened to look up and see a shadow-form
in the kitchen doorway, moving away from me. I was the
only one awake in the house at the time, so it wasn't
possible that someone was walking in such a manner as to
cast a shadow there. This shadow was brownish in color,
about 5 feet in height, with no distinguishable
features. As for shape, it was smaller at the top (like
a head) and widened about where one would expect
shoulders to be. I thought maybe it was my imagination,
so I didn't say a lot about it. I saw it again in the
doorway of my bedroom some months later.
Then at Christmas in 2002, my aunt came to visit. One
morning while she was here, she asked me if I had
noticed anything strange going on in our house. She
always stays up very late at night, so she was up after
everyone else had gone to bed. She said she was playing
with the dogs in our den in the middle of the night and
was down on the floor when she heard the floor creak as
though someone had stepped on it near the kitchen
doorway. She looked up, and saw a shadow in the kitchen
doorway. I asked if it was a brownish color, about 5
feet tall, at which she looked shocked and said "YES!"
She said it appeared to be moving away from her into the
kitchen, after which it disappeared.
My daughter heard all of this, and said she had seen the
shadow several times. Her description matched mine and
my aunt's. At some point afterward, my husband saw it.
Usually we see it in the kitchen or the hallway near the
bedrooms, although occasionally my daughter sees it in
the dining room or living room. She said she has seen it
seem to wave at her at least once.
Around Columbus Day, I came home from work to find my
daughter cleaning up broken glass from a candlestick
holder that normally stayed on the piano. I asked what
happened, and she said she was walking into the living
room, and saw the candlestick holder fly off the piano
and break just before I got home. She felt the shadow
had something to do with it. This was the first time an
object was broken-usually the things that get tossed
around are unbreakable and suffer no permanent damage. A
week or so ago, something tossed a plastic collander
across the kitchen. We weren't in the room, but we heard
the noise when it hit the floor.
We don't have any photos or drawings of our shadow
figure, but I showed the February photos from your site
of the shadow in the sliding door and on the park bench
to my daughter, and she said they look almost exactly
like the figure she has seen. The head/shoulders parts
of the figures in the photos look like what I have
seen-it isn't a thick black shadow, but more like the
shadow someone would cast from the light if there was
someone there to cast a shadow. I didn't notice whether
it had legs when I saw it because I was too shocked at
seeing it to begin with to look for legs.
After we found out last year that our daughter had been
seeing the shadow, we decided to go out to the cemetery
to take some photos because she says she can see them
there, too. We'd had no luck getting any photos of our
shadow. The attached photo shows something strange that
appeared in only one shot out of all the rolls of film
we took at the cemetery that day. It was made in late
July on a Saturday morning about 10 a.m., with no wind,
fog or anything else. It was a 35mm camera. We shot 4
rolls of film, but only one came up with this reddish
colored round shape. It shows up in the negative as
well. I am sending it to get your opinion."
